San Francisco is a major city on the west coast of the United States in California. The city ranks 4th in the state and 12th in the United States. For 2013, the city has over 837,000 inhabitants. At the same time, San Francisco is the second largest population in the United States (cities with over 200,000 inhabitants). The territorially located in the northern half of San Francisco covers 121 square kilometres. Halfway between London and Tokyo, between Seattle and San Diego, San Francisco, is of major economic importance and attracts the attention of a large business. One of the foundations of the local economy is, of course, tourism. San Francisco ranks third in the United States by number of foreign tourists visiting the city. In 2007, over 16 million people visited the city.

The San Francisco region has a large port of Auckland, eight other small ports and three key airports, which provide about 30 per cent of the total West Coast. Since the golden fever of San Francisco has been considered an important financial centre. Many high-technology industries, companies, research centres are concentrated in the region. Furthermore, it should not be forgotten that the famous Silicon Valley (Silicon Valley) is located south of the Gulf of San Francisco, a huge technology centre with strong influence on the region ' s economy. The pharmaceutical industry is well developed, and there are hundreds of companies in the region involved in medical electronics, genetic engineering, biotechnology.
More than 53 per cent of the urban adult population has a Bachelor ' s degree or higher. High levels of population education and the availability of a large number of skilled workers in the region have led to strong competition in the labour market. In turn, the rigid labour market, as well as the high cost of housing, food and other consumer goods, have resulted in the cost of living in San Francisco being one of the highest in the United States.

The unemployment rate for the summer of 2014 is small - only 4.6%. Some 14 per cent of the population have low incomes and live in poverty, but this is lower than the national average. However, there are many homeless people in the city who are attracted by normal climate and social assistance from local authorities.
